Did you know when you buy a new vehicle from MINI of Peabody that you also need to schedule a car inspection? The process can be quick and simple, if you’re prepared. We’re tackling our frequently asked questions about car inspections to help.
When Do I Need a Car Inspection?
Every vehicle registered in Massachusetts must undergo a yearly safety inspection. You are also required to schedule an inspection within seven days of registering a new vehicle.
There are also a multitude of vehicles that require an emissions test as well, including vehicles less than 15 years old that are equipped with an onboard diagnostic system.
How Does the Inspection Process Work?
There are over 1,800 licensed inspection stations in Massachusetts that can complete your vehicle emissions testing and safety inspection. Once the inspection is complete, they’ll decide if your vehicle passes or not.
If it passes, you’ll get an inspection sticker showing you passed, which is good for up to one year. Otherwise, you’ll receive a “reject” sticker. Keep in mind, you can be issued a traffic violation if you are caught driving without a valid sticker.
How Can I Make Sure My Vehicle Will Pass?
There are a few steps you can take to help ensure that your vehicle will pass its inspection. Review your vehicle for the following:
- Check your tire pressure
- Make sure your lights are all working properly
- Make sure your windshield wipers are in good condition
- Double-check that all your seatbelts are working as they should
