Not long ago at the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the MINI brand made an exciting announcement: in January 2018, a new MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) Tuning Kit will be available for the 2018 MINI Countryman and 2018 MINI Clubman. This news will put a spring in the step of all who own one of these high-energy models, whose considerable performance chops are about to get even better.
The JCW Tuning Kit optimizes engine power output and exhaust system efficiency, with the objective being improved overall performance and enhanced sound characteristics. To achieve this goal, new engine software programming, special aftermarket components, and a premium-grade, stainless steel exhaust system (including JCW Chrome or carbon fiber tailpipes) are employed to great effect. Eligible on front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD, or ALL4 in MINI parlance) versions of the aforementioned trims, this fantastic kit delivers a 19hp-boost (from 189hp to 208hp) and ups maximum torque output to 221 lb-ft.
Another excellent feature of the new JCW Tuning Kit is the included Bluetooth®-actuated exhaust valve system, which lets drivers change between two dynamic operating modes: Sport and Sport+. The latter is geared towards racetrack usage, while the former is perfect for everyday driving. Regardless of which mode you’re in, the enhanced sound output this kit provides adds yet another layer of engagement between car and driver.
